The picture of the 9/10 year old

We just had our class meeting. I love our class meetings because our teacher always gives us a picture of where our children are developmentally. The 9 year change is a big one - the children start realizing that they are an individual, they recognize mortality. Many will start saying things like, "No one likes me."

A motto for my 9-year old

My 9-year-old is getting on my last nerve. She is very privileged and lives a pretty good life. And while I'd hoped that these "privileges" would result in gratitude, it hasn't. I mean, of course, why would it if she hasn't learned what gratitude is? I guess when you're not around poverty or scarcity, how would you compare to learn about gratitude?

The 9-year change

In my last post I mentioned the 9-year change. We just discussed this topic in-depth in our recent class meeting and it's goooooood.

Here are some symptoms to look for:
• Secrecy.
• Alone time. Children around this age (remember, it could start as early as 8 years old) want to be alone.

Waldorf Education

Just had our parent teacher conference yesterday and of course, it's no surprise that I love this education. What really warmed my heart yesterday was that the teacher spoke to me about the 9-year change. Oh, it's real.

Moms of Middle Schoolers

My sister forwarded me an article on NPR the other day. It's about moms of middle schoolers and how they often will feel challenged. The article almost likens middle school parenting to new child parenting but says it's even worse.

Going to school on crutches

The babes seems to have sprained her ankle the other day. She spent the day at home yesterday and since she was in such high spirits and seemed to be jumping out of her skin, I sent her to school today knowing they had crutches available for her.

A Peek into Waldorf First Grade

For those that know about Waldorf Education, it's really all about the child. What I love most about what I've learned from my Waldorf Teacher Training is that every Waldorf teacher understands that each child comes to this Earth as a divine being and our job is to help this divine being peel back its layers to discover his/her purpose on this Earth. It's really beautiful.
