Allergies

We just hung out for week with a friend and her kids, one of whom has severe allergies. Well...so it seems. The little girl is allergic to gluten, carrots, rice. When we go out to eat, it seems she doesn't have a lot of options.

At first glance! I mean, we spent the first couple of days saying to the mom, "Oh, it must be so hard. Gosh, it's tough not only for the little girl but for you, as her mom!"

But then seeing what her daughter can actually eat, it turns out, it might be a blessing that she has these allergies! I mean, who needs gluten anyway? Or rice? Sure, carrots might be a bummer but other than that, she pretty much keeps to a paleo diet (meat proteins and veggies) and she's fine!

Just goes to show you how hard it is to find good for you food when you go out to eat. Whatever happened to just ordering up a plate of say, salmon and veggies. Well..okay, now that I think about it, the little girl couldn't have vinegar either, but so she could have oil and lemon as dressing. NBD.

It's all in the perception and we really don't need to be eating gluten, rice or dairy for that matter. She might be healthier than any of us!
