Mothers...motherhood

Gwyneth Paltrow interviews her mother, Blythe Danner on her Goop podcast. This interview brought tears to my eyes because it exemplifies how mothers often feel like they weren't good enough. I felt sad that Blythe diminishes her influence on her daughter, always attributing G's good qualities to her father. We never seem to recognize our gifts as mothers and we really give so much...from the moment we give birth, actually. Am I right?

My mother and myself as mother

Does anyone ever compare their parenting with that of their parents? I don't necessarily think "compare" is actually the word I am looking for. I'm not necessarily comparing my parenting to that of my mother's but I do have flashbacks of what my childhood was like in certain scenarios as I act out something different.

Please don't grow up

My friend was over the other day. She has a 12 year-old. She shared how her daughter has gotten her period...and there's a boy in her class that she likes and he likes her. And this summer, his mom asked for their address and the boy sent her daughter a note and a bracelet!

Oh! Can I come?

Those four little words...sometimes, they are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Sometimes, I just want a break from this child...why?

Because when we get to the car dealership, she is asking when we can leave...

When we get to the fabric store, she is asking me to buy her some frivolous nothing that she doesn't need and then goes on and on asking why not...

When we get to the vet's office she is asking when is the vet going to see us. How much longer...

Sometimes, I'd just like some peace and quiet in my life.
